We can all rejoice over the official announcement that the Queensland border is opening on the 10th of July!! It is a great start to a new road ahead and we are ready with open arms to welcome you to 'Live Like A Local' and unearth the hidden gems of Fortitude Valley, Queensland.
Those who have had the pleasure of staying with us you will know the area well. Far from being out in the country side (don't let the name fool you), 'The Valley' as we locals like to affectionately call it, is the entertainment and lifestyle precinct located on the north east rim of the Brisbane CBD and is a hype of activity that won't leave you disappointed. Gentrification has changed the landscape and left behind the rough and ready stigma it was branded with in years past. The number of new restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, venues and retail that have opened is exciting for greater Brisbane and tourists alike.
There is so much for you to uncover, and here are just some of the fantastic places to stop by on your 'Live Like A Local' experience.
As the saying goes, 'but first.... coffee' and isn't that the truth. Buzz Bistro Emporium has long partnered with Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments, since our doors opened in 2015, looking after our guests and locals with their morning kickstart of caffeine, and a delicious menu that would satisfy those with the biggest eyes.
After a big breakfast, stretch the legs and head to California Lane and say hello to Molly at Dunkle (handmade makeup and skincare made here in Brisbane, with values of sustainability, wellness & connection), Zoe at Rebellious Grace (jewellery designed and made in Brisbane right in front of your eyes), and Jarrod at Finnley Home (helping you give your home as much personality as you have). The group of retailers is simply delightful and will welcome you with the warmest of smiles. Each store has something unique and local to offer. We always like to gift ourselves on holiday and these are the stores to purchase from.
Perhaps retail is not for you and adventure and activity is what you need, then you can't go past the spirited team at Maniax Axe throwing. They are so passionate about what they do and have a team philosophy of making memories. With Clare at the helm who represents Australia in competitive Axe throwing, you are in safe hands. It is a fantastic activity to do amongst friends and family or even for a date night. Yes, they have date night packages.
For those seeking a slower-paced experience where wine is the hero, stroll around to Wandoo street where you will find City Winery. Who knew you could have a winery in the heart of the city, but all we can say is we are glad you can. For the trivia buffs at home, did you know the last time Brisbane had an inner-city winery was in 1860! It has been a long time in the making and locals would agree it has been worth the wait. City Winery is working micro-winery sourcing grapes across Australia's key growing regions, bringing them to the city where Winemaker Dave Cush will create delicious wine. City Winery will bring the grapes if you can bring the party.
These are only just a small few of the many fabulous places to visit, experience and uncover in Fortitude Valley and its brothers and sisters (Newstead, New Farm, Teneriffe). We are fortunate that it is all a short stroll from our hotel door and our guests have much to enjoy and experience.
