Book club: The Wall by Marlen Haushofer

For March's book club, we'll be reading Marlen Haushofer's The Wall.

First published in German to acclaim in 1963, The Wall sees a woman go to visit her cousin and his wife at their mountain lodge, while they are on a holiday. One evening, they decide to walk into the nearby town for a drink, and they do not come back. When the woman goes to look for them, she finds her way blocked by an invisible wall she cannot find either end of. Looking through the wall, people and animals on the other side are frozen, dead. Accompanied by her dog, the cow she finds, and the cat that finds her, the woman finds ways to survive, and begins to write an account of what has happened.

Your ticket includes a soft drink and snacks, and a $2 donation to Literacy For Life, a First Nations-run charity training local people to deliver literacy classes in their communities.

You'll have seen their gorgeous leather journal covers on Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest, and now you can make your own.

In this two hour workshop led by guest hosts, darling citizen, you'll create your own leather journal -- hammering the holes, choosing all the customisations, from eyelet colours to cord colours, charms, and embossing, as well as decorations for the notebooks. You'll get two notebooks to slot into your journal cover, and a cloth bag to keep your journal in, as well as some special extras.
