Australasian Dance Collective Partnership

Our blossoming partnership with Australasian Dance Collective (ADC) commenced in 2017 when they were formerly known as Expressions Dance Company.

Australasian Dance Collective is one of the nation’s leading contemporary dance companies. Established in 1984, ADC has created more than 170 works by 75 Australian and international choreographers.

With an extraordinary ensemble of six dancers, the company has achieved significant recognition through national awards, including three Helpmann Awards and three Australian Dance Awards.
They are defined by their commitment to excellence in both performance and sector development, contributing to the evolution and future of contemporary dance. Annually they create multiple new works, collaborate nationally and internationally and present performance seasons at major Australian venues including their presenting partner venue, Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
Entering a bold new era under the leadership of Artistic Director, Amy Hollingsworth, the Queensland-based company is focussed on collaboration, empowerment and artistic risk-taking to create exhilarating dance works that push boundaries and speak to the soul.

Behind Closed Doors was the performance piece that brought ADC and Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments together. The stunning work from then Artistic Director, Natalie Weir, was a poetic kiss-and-tell set in a hotel. It revealed the darkness, playfulness and fragility of human nature all taking place behind closed doors. This particular performance resonated with us for more reasons than just its setting. Whilst we welcome guests daily, we never truly know what stories, dreams or personal struggles they are facing when they enter our doors.

A partnership between the two companies was the obvious next step. Both proudly Australian and operating right here in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley - with a global view, but remaining fiercely local. Over the years we have had the pleasure of accommodating many of the collective’s collaborators who have resided with us during rehearsals, providing them a welcoming safe haven close to ADC.

There was no question that we wanted to partner with Australasian Dance Collective and 2020 marks three wonderfully creative years working together.
